Important Voter Information

Orange County, Florida

Get the FACTS before you Vote !!

Don't be fooled by negative attacks that are politically motivated and funded by committees and groups who are promoting a candidate(s) or specific political party.

What you can trust is someone's record and accomplishments. And what you should do is vote for the candidate who is the best and most experienced candidate for the job - not who a particular group or party tells you to vote for. And as a voter, it's important for you to know this race is non-partisan, meaning political party affiliation is not a factor in the election of an Orange County Commissioner.

While my party affiliation should not be considered, I am happy to share with you that I have a proven track record of cooperatively working with everyone, no matter what political affiliation, and working to advance fundamental principles we all share, no matter what political party you belong to.

I take great pride in being open and transparent. I want to share with you the negative attacks that are circulating, be open in addressing these things, and provide you with accurate information:

Issue: Supported by special interests, not for the people

Accurate information:
Unfortunately, I have been attacked for the unprecedented level of support and endorsements I have received from elected officials, as well as business leaders throughout the community. The fact is that my work, record and reputation are what leads people – whether elected officials, businessmen and women and citizens – to support me. Period. It’s obvious that since my attackers cannot condemn my record, they try to condemn my character. And it’s unfortunate that some people, fueled by spite, try to spread false claims and rumors to negative influence.

It’s important for you to know that, while in office as an Orange County Commissioner, I voted against sprawl and mega development projects. My independent voice, as the Orlando Sentinel said, is an asset and my “priorities of creating jobs, revitalizing neighborhoods and promoting more citizen involvement are a good fit for District 3.”

My work and record affirm that I work for the people. My record … of championing an ordinance for service-disabled veterans, cutting government spending and impact fees to help PEOPLE, establishing parks and safe neighborhood programs for PEOPLE, and more … speaks for itself.

Issue: Spending $9,000 on redecorating my office while serving as Orange County Commissioner

Accurate information:
When I was appointed by the Governor to take over the duties of Former Orange County Commissioner Mildred Fernandez, I was given her office which she had previously outfitted with wicker patio type furniture rather than professional office furnishings. Following her removal from office and before I was sworn-in, her furniture and personal effects were removed. The office suite walls were badly in need of patching and painting. It was county standard procedure to restore and refurbish the office and procure functional office furnishings through pre-existing county contracts. Items purchased are designed for long-term use. Those furnishings are there today and will be for years to come. Purchases were within the county contract and under the normal allotment provided. All decorations and accessories were, of course, privately paid for by me.

Issue: Appointed all Democrats to Redistricting Commission

Accurate information:
I appointed 2 individuals to this commission and appointed them based on who I believed were the best qualified individuals to serve on this commission. I'm also proud of all my other appointments, which I ensured included diversity. Party affiliation is never a consideration when I make an appointment.

Issue: Worked for a Democrat Commissioner for years

Accurate information:
That is correct. Her name was Mary I. Johnson - a great leader and a great public servant. I am proud of my work and experience with her.
